  What Was That?

What Was That?A play based on the amazing true story of the Chirnside family who lived in the Werribee Park mansion. It’s scary, it’s fun!

To set the scene...
It is July 1908, the mistress, Mary Chirnside, died three weeks ago as a result of a terrible accident. Since then, there have been many unusual occurrences; objects moving, strange noises and ghostly figures. Despite this, the only two remaining servants, Maggie and Mr Duncan have miraculously managed to keep their sense of humour. It is therefore with mixed feelings of excitement and trepidation that you are welcomed here tonight, for what is about to happen is both inexplicable and most enjoyable. Let the evening begin!

WWT Pic 2The Ghostly Gourmet Adventure
Why not indulge in a whole evening in the historic Werribee Park Mansion. Commence the night with a three course 19th century style dinner cooked and demonstrated to you by chef, Bart Beek in the historic kitchen. Bart will take you back in time to explain the lifestyle of the Victorian era. Boutique wines are served and the evening ends with a full performance of ‘What Was That?’

About the Chirnside Family and Werribee Park
The Chirnside brothers, Thomas and Andrew, came out from Scotland to Australia in 1839. Over the years they accumulated enormous wealth as squatters, with their sole source of income coming from sheep farming. Thomas, the elder brother, never married but had the magnificent Werribee Park Mansion built for his brother Andrew, his wife Mary and their three youngest children. This was completed in 1877. Thomas resided mainly at Point Cook but was a frequent visitor to Werribee Mansion.
